Description

 This programme is aimed at nurses who work in hospital, residential and community settings.  It addresses the challenges of managing cancer patient’s nutrition and will promote best practice in the provision of nutrition and cancer care in both the home and in hospital.  The programme will provide guidance on assessment care planning and monitoring of cancer patient’s nutritional needs, identify current policy and guidelines relating to nutrition and identify the importance of nutrition in cancer care and implementation of nursing strategies to help tackle malnutrition.  
 
Learning outcomes:
 
    • Nurses will be able to recognise the role of the nurse and their contribution to nutrition and cancer care in both the hospital and home.
    • Identification of current policy and guidelines relating to nutrition in this vulnerable group of patients.
    • Recognition of the effects of cancer treatments on the nutritional status of patients.
    • Identify the importance of nutrition in cancer care and implementation of nursing strategies to help tackle malnutrition.
    • Discuss the future of nursing in relation to nutrition and cancer care approaches.
